5 LESSONS WE COULD ALL LEARN FROM NETFLIX’S BLING EMPIRE
There’s a show on Netflix called Bling Empire which follows the lives of a wealthy group of Asians in Southern California. While it’s quite entertaining, there are quite a few lessons lash artists can take away from the show. In this article, I’ll share a few that I noticed from Season 3.

Netflix's Bling Empire is a reality show that offers a glimpse into the luxurious lives of a group of wealthy Asian Americans in Los Angeles and from the start of the show, I was hooked. I found it interesting to see the lives of these wealthy Asian people and became fully entertained within a few minutes of watching the show.
While the show may be centered around extravagant parties and drama, there are several valuable lessons that I believe lash artists can learn from the cast. In this article, I’ll share the top 5 observations I made that I think you’ll find useful.
The cast of Bling Empire are always demonstrating the importance of networking and building relationships by showcasing all of the gatherings they host and attend. What I noticed is that if someone is hosting an event, they show up to support and network with people they may or may not know.
From business partnerships to collaborations, the show highlights the impact of connections and how they can lead to new opportunities and growth. Lash artists can learn from this by networking with other professionals, attending industry events with like-minded lash artists, and if you’re looking to grow your business, attend events that have a strong base of your ideal clients.
This is something that is so important in the beauty industry in general, but especially as a lash artist. It’s important that you’re memorable in the mind of your ideal client.
The cast members of Bling Empire all have their own unique styles and personalities that set them apart and make them memorable. Lash artists can learn from this by developing a personal brand that showcases their skills and personality. This means it’s important to have a strong social media presence, a professional website, and a memorable logo or business name.
Equally as important, you must always dress to impress when meeting people whether you’re just running errands or meeting a client for the first time. Making the effort to dress to impress is an easy way to make a good first impression and first impressions are important in business and can have a lasting impact on others' perceptions of you. Dressing professionally can help you convey confidence, competence, and credibility.
Building credibility: Business attire often conveys a level of professionalism and competence, and can help build credibility with clients.
Showing respect: Dressing appropriately for business can also show respect for your clients and your business. It demonstrates that you take your job and your business; image seriously.
Boosting confidence: When you dress professionally, you may feel more confident and ready to tackle the challenges of the workday.
The cast members all have different careers, but they continuously invest in their education and training to keep up with the latest trends and techniques. Lash artists can learn from this by attending workshops and seminars, taking online courses, and practicing their skills regularly. This not only improves their abilities but also helps them stand out from the competition.
Some artists take one class throughout their entire career as a lash artist and then rely on their peers on YouTube or in Facebook groups.
Lash artists should be cautious when learning from YouTube videos or Facebook groups because:
Quality of information: The quality of information shared on YouTube or Facebook groups can be unreliable, as anyone can post information without verification. Some posts may contain incorrect or outdated information, which can be dangerous when it comes to techniques like eyelash extensions.
Lack of credentials: Many people posting on YouTube or in Facebook groups may not have professional training or experience in eyelash extensions, so they may be sharing techniques that are incorrect or harmful.
Lack of regulation: YouTube videos and Facebook groups do not have any regulations or oversight, so members may not be held accountable for the information they share.
Risk of injury: Learning from an unreliable source can increase the risk of injury to clients or to the lash artist, as incorrect techniques or products can cause harm.
Lack of feedback: YouTube videos and Facebook groups lack the structure and guidance of a professional training program, so lash artists may not receive the feedback they need to improve their techniques or to correct any mistakes.
It's important for lash artists to seek out credible and professional training programs and to continue their education in the field. This will ensure that they have the proper techniques, knowledge, and skills to provide safe and effective eyelash extensions to their clients.
Many of the cast members have multiple businesses or offer various services, which can lead to greater financial stability and success. Lash artists can learn from this by diversifying their services to include other lash services such as classics, volume and megavolume and perhaps even lash lifts and lash tinting.
By offering a variety of services, this can help attract new clients and increase revenue. In fact, this is something I learned as soon as volume lashing was introduced to the lash industry. Initially I was hesitant to offer the service however, after a push from a fellow lash artist and trainer, I learned how to apply volume lashes despite thinking I’d never use this skill.
Years later, volume lashes are one of the more popular services I offer to clients and had I not been open to the idea of learning and adding them to my services menu, I could have potentially lost income as a result of it.
Although they appear to be catty on the show, in their own businesses, the cast members all understand the value of an excellent customer experience, which helps them retain clients in their business and attract new ones.
Lash artists can learn from this by providing a warm and welcoming environment, listening to their clients' needs, and going above and beyond to ensure their satisfaction. One thing I notice about lash artists and beauticians in general is that when they go into business for themselves, they make the business all about them.
Meaning, they play the kind of music they like in their space. They have little tchotchkes they like scattered about and they’ve designed the space in a way they like. When designing your business for ideal clients, repeat after me… It’s not about YOU!
If you want to attract and retain clients, you must create an environment that’s all about your ideal clients. Think about the kind of music they want to listen to. What kind of environment will they find relaxing? When I designed the space I work out of, I knew that cleanliness was of the utmost importance so I have a minimal design that while it is elegant, it is also easy to keep clean and looks uncluttered.
Also, instead of listening to Joel Osteen and Joyce Meyer podcasts all day, imposing what I like on my clients, I play a neutral sound of ocean waves which helps clients fall asleep. So always think about how you can provide a great customer experience for your clients and remember…. it’s not about you!
In conclusion, Bling Empire offers valuable lessons that lash artists can apply to their own businesses. From networking and personal branding to education and customer service, there is much to learn from the cast members and their successful careers.
